In Road to Power, players must write every ad they wish to produce. The up-shot of that is there is a greater variety of ads then before, and a more open-ended way of spending money on them. These are the guidelines for each type of advertisement:
Television Cost to produce: $25,000 Cost to run: varies Word limit: 125 words spoken Let's face it, this is the most common ad out there, and the most expensive. 60-second ads have no more than 100 words spoken or so, and 30-second ads have even less. So, you have a spoken word limit, but I do not limit you to the number of words used in the script (stage directions, image descriptions, etc.). But go over board, I'll let you know. Radio Cost to produce: $7,500 Cost to run: varies Word limit: 125 words For radio, there are no stage directions, it's all spoken words. Not very effective ads, but you get what you pay for. Newspaper Cost to produce: $7,500 Cost to run: varies Word limit: 500 words These cost more to run than radio ads, but can be more effective, especially if there is some art involved. Also, the market has made the national newspapers extremely expensive, compared to the local buys, where as radio is more uniform. Direct mail Cost to produce: $2,500 Cost to run: $500 per thousand Cost breakdown: 39 cents postage, 7.5 cents copying, 3.5 cents overhead Word limit: 750 words Cheap to produce because it is essentially just mailing someone a letter to stir them up into voting. The cost is fairly cheap, but can pile up quickly as you try to reach a larger audience. Campaign literature ("fliers") Cost to produce: $5,000 Word limit: 150 These are a staple for any campaign wishing to canvass or do door-knocking. They are relatively cheap to produce, except they are on glossy paper and in color, so cost more than direct mail. Good news is the cost to run these are built into the cost to canvass, which is the only way you use them. -------------------- Ken Kerns
