FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sen. Ron Motta (D-NY) is pleased to announce the formation of his new Political Action Committee called "Americans for Common Sense." "As both a congressman and senator, I was and still am a devout believer in Bill Clinton's third way," Sen. Motta said. "That third way was what I called 'common sense government.' Common sense includes paying off the deficit, making health care affordable, push legislation that benefits the American people and not some ideolgical agendam fiscal responsibility and working with the other party when neccessary to get things done for the American people.

"Yes, I am a Democrat and a proud one at that. But I first and formost am loyal to the American people and the American people are sick of divisive politics from both sides of the aisle. ACS seeks to put a stop to that and we will be watching the primaries closely to see who espouses those ideals."

When asked whether or not this PAC formation is a prelude to setting up a run in the future, Sen. Motta said, "As I said when I declined to enter the presidential race this year, right now I am concentrating on serving the people of New York. They voted me in for a second term and I will serve out that term. Anything after that is wide open."

AP- WASHINGTON, D.C.

Sen. James "Jim" Connolly (D-NJ) and Sen. Ron Motta (D-NY) were greeted by a crowd of enthusiastic Democrats today as they prepared to announce the addition of Senator Connolly as co-chair of the PAC "Americans For Common Sense."

"I'm sorry that we were a little late," said Senator Connolly. "But I'm sure you all know how the traffic in this city can get during rush hour."

"On a more serious note, we are proud to announce the formation of 'Americans For Common Sense.'

For too long, this country's fiscal situation has grown worse. But instead of fixing the problem, the current administration has only inflamed it.

That's why we ask whoever this party's nominee is to submit a budget plan that will put us back on the road to fiscal discipline. More importantly, we want to see a nominee who can help balance the budget without cutting Health Care and Social Security benefits."

Senator Motta added a few comments of his own.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Jim Connolly as my partner in the senate for the past few years. He is not only a colleague, he is a friend. We believe that fiscal responsibility and progressive leadership aren't mutually exclusive and with this organization, we hope to restore the 'common sense' approach to government that yielded surpluses in the 90's.

Will this be an easy task? No. But it wasn't an easy task for President Clinton either, yet he was able to accomplish his goals of a balanced budget."

Some in Washington question if these are realistic goals due to the increased spending on the War on Terror. However, both senators were confident in their plan.

"You may ask, 'why bother?'" said Senator Connolly. "But we ask, 'why not?'"

"If we don't attempt to solve the problem, then we'll never know if we could have changed it," Senator Motta stated.

Both are expected to begin touring the country and speaking to different groups in hopes of spreading their message.

WASHINGTON D.C.(AP)--Outside his Senate office, Sen. Ron Motta (D-NY) was questioned by reporters regarding the formation of his new Political Action Committee, "Americans for Common Sense", alongside Sen. James Connolly (D-NJ).

"I just want to reiterate how pleased and honored I am to have Sen. Connolly as my partner in this venture," Motta said. "We share most of the same political philosophy. Progressive government and responsible government do not have to mutually exclusive. The Republicans seem to think that it is, but we proved it during the 90's where, under the Clinton Administration, we balanced the budget and didn't cut any important programs.

"Sen. Connolly is a dynamic partner with great vision. His optimism, creativity and intelligence will benefit all of the American people and I look forward to working with him on the road."

When asked how he plans on using his PAC, Motta replied, "Sen. Connolly and I are planning on touring the country and when I say touring the country, I mean both so-called red states AND blue states. I may be elected by the people of New York, but I have a responsibility to all Americans. I hope to work with the DNC in waging a national campaign on ALL levels. I may not be running for President, but I'll be out there trumpeting the Democratic Party's agenda like I am."

Some have speculated that his PAC was designed to increase his visiblity and land him a spot on the national ticket. Motta simply said, "I'm not campaigning for a spot on the national ticket." When pressed on whether or not he'd accept the number two spot on the ticket, he repeated, "I'm not actively campaigning for the vice presidential nomination. That's all I have to say on that."

Regarding recent statements from Vice President David Sheridan, Motta said, "I don't think I've heard him utter dialogue that ridiculous since, well, his last movie. We have an invisible president, an out-of-touch vice president and the American people are going to see through that."
