DES MOINES (KCG) - In a surprise boost to the Steven Andrews campaign, Iowa's Progressive Conservatives very nearly delivered an upset for him over liberal wildcard Cory Delmond.
Delmond edged Andrews by 91 votes out of more than 12,900 between them for second place. Colin Carpenter took 1st place quite as expected with about 44% of the votes cast. Now, all eyes are eagerly waiting on the second stage count of the PC preferences, as Chris Ehrisman's supporters will determine whether Delmond or Andrews wins any delegates. Meanwhile, Governor Conway scored an impressive comeback to win the Iowa caucuses, 24%-22% over Mary Ann Lincoln. Governor Stive lost 3rd place narrowly to Miran Pavich in large part because his campaign relied far less on regional offices than any other. Also, President Jackson won a resounding 59-41 victory over Governor Wood in the GOP caucuses, sweeping every region in the contest. -------------------- Ken Kerns
