Title: Patriot Election Bill

Marbury (D-SC) CoSponsors: Mr. Laverone, Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Plawinski, Mr. Cherry, Mr. Thayner, Mr. Cherry, Ms. Desmond, Mr. Garwood, Mr. Sangiovese, Mr. Spitzen, Mr. Dalton, Mr. Harrisson, and Mr. Dallas Section I. Short Title This bill may be refered to as 'The Patriot Bill ' Section II. Findings (1) Persons Not-Voting On Election Day Usually Blame That Upon Working Hours (2) Voter apathy occurs highly in industrial, middle class, working family towns due to lack of time to vote. (3) If employee's did not work on voting day, turnout could be greater. Section III. [Patriot Election Bill] (1) This would create the first Tuesday in November as a National Holiday. (2) This would be as such, all Federal Employees (Postal Workers, etc...), State employees (Legislators, etc....), and Local Employees (etc...) would have the day off. With most businesses aswell. (3) Obviously some employers cannot do this because of the type of work they do (Nursing Homes, Police Agencies) but it shall still be considered a National Holiday and most employers (All Government Employers, Besides Investigative and Law Enforcement) and those who do not perform high-risk or work at places such as Nursing Homes or such as that. Schools will not be in session on it, and colleges and universities as well. (4) In brief, The first Tuesday in November be a National Holiday and all the normal National Holiday systems go into play. (5) This in turn could turn voter turnouts to an all time high, promoting more of a Democracy. Section IV. Enactment. (1) This Bill shall pass as a National Holiday upon the signature of the President of the United States of America. |
