IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
August 17, 2004 Mr. Ivan Karamzov I-NY (speaking for himself and Mr. John Devlin D-AT, Mr. Garwood) introduced the following bill; to be referred to the committee on Education and the Workforce. A BILL To establish an official Slavic Awareness Week within the United States of America Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE This may be cited as the �Slavic Awareness Week ACT.� SECTION 2. FINDINGS Congress finds the following: - The Slavic peoples of the world have a rich and proud history that has contributed significantly to the their own civilizations as well as the civilizations of the world. - Knowledge on the contribution of the Slavic peoples is woefully lacking in the United States Public school systems as well as the general public. SECTION 3: NECESSARY ACTION Congress should immediately - Create an official Slavic Awareness week within the United States on the last week of September. - Create school activities to promote Slavic awareness throughout the K-12 level during said week |
