QUOTE | Recognizing that while all people have the right to free speech, sometimes certain things are better left unsaid at certain times.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Mr. Allum of Michigan (for himself, Mr. Carpenter of Washigton, Mr. Troutman of California, Mr. Wilder of Texas, Mr. Garwood of Michigan, Ms. Wood of Louisana, Mr. Boland of Connecticut, Mr. Laverone of California, Ms. Almeida of Virginia, Mr. Mayo of Wisconsin, Mr. Kiefer of Texas, Mr. Lindsey of Pennsylvania, Mr. Martin of Pennsylvania, Mr. Holland of Georgia, Mr. Parkerson of Pennsylvania, Mr. Santiago of Texas, Mr. Heortman of California, and Mr. Schmidt of California) submits the following resolution to be referred to the Committee of Judiciary and Government Affairs
RESOLUTION
Whereas the recent remarks made by Mr. Chorley to the troops in Iraq were inappropriate during a time of war,
Whereas a majority of Americans and many US Representatives found the remarks from Mr. Chorley to be wrong, distasteful, and wholly without merit,
Whereas a trial was never held to determine the proper legality of Mr. Chorleys statements to the troops in Iraq,
Whereas the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees that Congress shall make no law prohibiting free speech, yet does not restrict Congress from disassociating itself from comments made,
Whereas the events surrounding Mr. Chorleys statements were never fully resolved and the American people deserve closure and a final word on the matter,
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the House of Representatives of the United States of America believes the statements made by Mr. Chorley to be wrong and without merit. Furthermore, the House finds Mr. Chorleys words to be contemptuous and not supportive of our nations troops in a time of war. |
